The Play It Forward Singapore movement has a quirky, high-spirited goal — find neglected pianos and put them in public spaces so that everyday Singaporeans can have access to it.

Launched in September last year by "three piano nerds", the Play It Forward series has gone into its second edition that's currently ongoing till the end of next month. Right now, six pianos are scattered across Marina Bay— all of which are completely available for anyone to jump in and play.

Bukit Batok

The stage is set for the soul of Bukit Batok after a calamitous end to the political career of David Ong, the former Member of Parliament who allegedly had a saucy extramarital affair with a grassroots volunteer in his constituency.

His resignation left a vacuum of power, leading to a showdown between the replacement nominated by the People's Action Party (PAP) Murali Pillai and Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) chief Dr Chee Soon Juan. Weeks of intense campaigning (PAP threw in all their big guns) followed without knowing when voting day will be — until now.

News

Well done Singapore, we've achieved yet another milestone — sinking to a new bottom in this year's World Press Freedom Index, making it the fourth consecutive year tumbling down the ranks.

Now landing at the dismal ranking of 154 out of 180 countries, the little red dot's journalistic freedom and independence is deemed under intense attack in the past year. The index is based on an evaluation of media freedom that measures pluralism, media independence, quality of legal framework and safety of journalists — and we're not doing well in those aspects.  In comparison, Singapore was ranked 153rd in 2015, 150th in 2014 and 135th in 2012.

Our love for Game Of Thrones is as sweeping as The Wall that stretches across the northern border of the Seven Kingdoms, but it looks like many others feel the same — and they're even acting on their devotion to the HBO series.

Flight data from global travel search engine Skyscanner has revealed increasing travel interest from Singaporeans to visit the awe-inspiring locations that form the background of the show. According to the data taken between December 2015 to March 2016, more Singaporean travellers are interested in checking out sites in Ireland, Croatia and Spain.

After a 5-hour long scorching race against time, the Singapore Civil Defence Force managed to put out the blaze that had erupted from an oil storage tank in Jurong Island, with around 150 personnel involved in the battle.

Amidst heavy rain, the massive inferno broke out shortly before 3pm, producing a plume of black smoke that could be seen from afar. A video captured yesterday showed the oil tank collapsing into itself — such was the intensity of the fire.

Ah well, they jinxed it. Just mere days after Minister of Transport Khaw Boon Wan celebrated a milestone of 100 disruption-free days for the North-South Line (NSL), it got hit by issues yet again today.

The disruption occured this morning, with a train fault affecting train services from Marina South Pier all the way to Newton, in the direction towards Jurong East. It took an hour for SMRT to get the NSL up and running in full again, but alas, the damage was done — the clock turned back to zero.

A woman's drunken, topless swim at Tanjong Beach Club's pool ended up in tears when she woke up in a police cell the following day.

After having a tad too much to drink at the Sentosa club in April last year, 26-year-old Zhao Xiaotian violently struggled against attempts to get her to put her bikini top back on, and even spat, slapped and verbally abused police officers.

The intensity of her disorderly conduct was severe indeed — she was sentenced to two weeks in jail yesterday on two counts of using criminal force on a public servant in the execution of duty, The New Paper reports.

Yesterday, the whole world (and most probably a segment of Singapore's population) celebrated 4/20: National Weed Day— and it was on this day that de facto marijuana mecca Jamaica rebuked the United Nations on their "outdated" status on cannabis.

Jamaican Foreign Minister Kamina Johnson-Smith had some pretty strong words for the UN General Assembly in New York yesterday, VICE News reports. She contended the fact that cannabis is still deemed a dangerous drug with no medical use under international law, calling the classification an "anomaly".
