After Chng Leng Khim moved out of her landed home in Paya Lebar Crescent, the landlord stumbled upon a ghastly find two days later — three severely malnourished, sick and tick-infested dogs left behind.

The 43-year-old mother of three has since been sentenced to 10 days in prison for causing the dogs unnecessary suffering by not taking them to the vet for treatment, The Straits Times reports. She was fined $3,100 as well for failing to comply with an order by the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) to help in their investigations — she kept the dogs without a valid licence.

Rubbish

In a bid to escape from her allegedly abusive employers, an Indonesian domestic helper tied a bunch of bedsheets together and climbed into a rubbish chute, intending to lower herself down slowly down to the bottom.

Amazingly, she managed to pull it off initially, securing one end of the makeshift rope to the handle of the rubbish chute hopper and the other end around her waist. Unfortunately, she lost her grip and fell into the waste collection bin at the foot of the HDB flat. Seven floors below.

Landing in a heap of rubbish (which did nothing to cushion her fall), she injured her spine and leg and shouted for help. 10 minutes, later the estate's cleaner found 28-year-old Rindu in the heap.

We'd like to think that this was all part of a daring heist, but real life ain't so dramatic — a POSB branch in old Woodlands now has a huge gaping hole at its side due to an vehicular accident.

This wasn't just any simple vehicle — this was a mobile construction crane that ploughed into the side of the bank after the driver lost control while making a turn. Channel NewsAsia reports that no one was injured in the accident, and the driver escaped with a bit of whiplash.

The recent appearance of President Barack Obama on The Ellen DeGeneres Show made headlines across the world for one genuinely heart-warming segment.

In one of those rare times, the beloved — and very chatty — talk show host suddenly choked up and was visibly overwhelmed when the US president congratulated her for her major role in changing attitudes towards LGBT people in America.

If there's one thing that everyone can agree on the government doing right in the past year, it's hiring award-winning film production company Freeflow Productions to create their videos.

They're the creative masterminds behind cinematic short films such as Love of a Lifetime (that promoted the Pioneer Generation Package), You're The Boy (that promoted SG50) and StarHub's moving Home by Homes— and their latest effort impresses yet again.

Former kindergarten principals Bavani V R Kumaran and Koh Anna have been dragged to court in two separate cases for the same crime, TODAY reports. They misappropriated funds totalling nearly $100,000 during their term as heads of two PAP Community Foundation (PCF) centres.

During his time as the principal of PCF Sparkletots Preschool at 644 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4, 39-year-old Bavani was found to have allegedly misappropriated $13,540 of cash belonging to an Ong Choo Huay. Between January 2014 and October last year, he was said to have converted the money for personal use, and has since been charged with two counts of criminal breach of trust.

Singapore’s market cooling measures have been effective in reducing the prices of HDB flats and private homes over the past few years, but housing costs here are still seen as too high, revealed findings published by a global report last month.

According to the 12th Annual Demographia International Housing Affordability Survey, Singapore has a “seriously unaffordable” rating of 5.0, no change from last year’s results.

The report used the median multiple indicator, which is the median house price divided by gross annual median household income, to rate housing affordability across 367 cities in nine countries.

Crash

When two cars try to beat the traffic light at an intersection, nothing good can come out of it obviously.

With traffic already slowing down because of the the slick roads, motorists along the Ophir Road and North Bridge Road junction had to face a traffic jam after two vehicles crashed into each other after a yellow Hyndai Veloster driver accelerated before the lights turned green, while a Mercedes cab driver tried to beat the amber light.

Their fates destined to collide, they crashed into each other— but not too harshly, considering both drivers managed to step on the brakes. See how it unfolded in the Roads.sg video below:

Already a pretty crowded locale every morning due to its proximity to the Johor checkpoint, old Woodlands Town Centre was an even more chaotic site early today.

For obvious reasons of course — who wouldn't want to stop and take pictures of a behemoth of a construction vehicle that toppled over and lodged itself politely into a POSB bank branch?

A passerby who was at the scene 10 minutes before the gigantic accident happened saw it all and was on site to take photos of the turmoil around the area in the aftermath.

As we all know, bonsai plants — in all its zen miniature tree-like glory — are really quite expensive and fragile. Extremely smitten by their beauty and undeterred by the prospect of being caught, Teo Tiong Guan broke into several community gardens and even a flat to filch them.

In total, he stole nine bonsai plants, worth more than $12,000 over two months last year, TODAY reports. His radical love for bonsai has landed the 51-year-old horticulture enthusiast a one-year jail sentence for trespassing and theft.

His shrub-stealing spree began on May 14 last year, when he walked past bonsai plants at Yuhua Community Centre. 'Twas love at first sight, and he plotted to steal them as he found them beautiful.

Paris-based International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH) has made a call out to the government of Singapore to drop all charges against three #ReturnOurCPF protestors who appeared in State Court today.

24-year-old activist (and previous Member of Parliament contender) Han Hui Hui is facing charges for causing public nuisance during the dramatic face-off at Hong Lim Park in September 2014. A rally headed by Han and fellow political blogger Roy Ngerng clashed with a YMCA charity carnival in a territorial dispute.

Of the many lists Singapore appears in the top tier, this is one such index that the city-state definitely should not be appearing in.

According to a report by professional services network Deloitte, Singapore is counted among the top five countries in the region most vulnerable to cyberattacks. That's bad news, especially since the country's heavily dependent on Internet-based interactions and transactions.

The Asia-Pacific Defence Outlook 2016 counts Singapore to be part of the 'Cyber Five' alongside South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and Japan — all of whom appear nine times more vulnerable to offensive manoeuvres made through the web. The vulnerability index used data such as the national rate of mobile cell subscribers, number of secure internet servers, fixed broadband subscribers as well as the rate of internet usage.

Video: Donald Trump speaks Singlish in Laek1yo's latest parody

In his archetypal absurdist manner, serial satirist Laek1yo is at it again with another odd video — this time he paints his target on political troll and serious US presidential contender Donald Trump.

With his Republican rival Jeb Bush (whom he dubbed "low-energy) dropping out of the presidential race, the billionaire swept to victory today in Nevada — his third consecutive win in the Republican race. His popularity however is a worrying factor, especially because he's a bigoted asshat who wants to ban all Muslims from entering the United States and wants a wall to be built on the Mexican-American border to shut down illegal immigration.

Ringgit falls against Singapore dollar in its lowest value since January

Ringgit

Once again, the Malaysian ringgit fell, to the point where a Singapore dollar will get you over RM3. That's lowest in about four weeks.

The ringgit was down 0.26 percent to 0.33363 against the Singapore dollar late yesterday, according to Bloomberg, as Malaysia's continues to suffer from weak global oil prices. Our northern neighbours derive 22 percent of their revenue from oil-related sources, and every U$1 drop in commodity will risk 300 million ringgit in losses.

According to the market as of this writing, the Malaysian currency has strengthened slightly — S$1 will get you RM2.99212.

AVA recalls Dutch-made Mars chocolate products following plastic scare

Looks like the whole Mars and Snickers bar scare is affecting the products sold here too — the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA) has issued a recall for the super-sugary candy bricks.

The whole brouhaha erupted after a customer in Germany found bits of plastic in a Snickers bar last month, which was traced back to a Mars factory in the southern town of Veghel in the Netherlands.

Following the discovery, Mars inc ordered a recall of their chocolate products in 55 countries, citing uncertainty that the plastic bits were only in that particular Snickers. Not all the Mars bars in the world, mind you (though that would be a good thing for health); just the ones manufactured at the Dutch plant.

Another day, another egregious asshat spoiling the day of fellow road users. A light tap on the horn to alert a driver's attention to the traffic light turned into an aggressive car chase that saw the road rager follow a motorist all the way into the carpark of Jem shopping mall.

The dashcam capturing the whole altercation was uploaded on the Beh Chia Lor Facebook page, where the driver's slight horn caused the red car's driver to, well, see red. The driver who posted the video explains that he avoided a full-on confrontation with the aggro dude in consideration of his 60-year-old mother (ailing from a cognitive heart issue) who was on board as well.

"I have made a police report and will forward the video to them," he says.
