The thought of our kopitiam standard — soft boiled eggs — putting people off their appetite sounds odd, but in the eyes of non-Singaporeans, it's a bizarre breakfast. Though every self-respecting Singaporean should stand by our eggcellent (sorry) morning classic, those not familiar with it only see it as what it is: a raw, goopy mess.

Travel site Alternative, however, sought out a couple of adventurous tourists to try out half-boiled eggs for the first time ever. Watch as their initial revulsion turn into amusing delight — after all, nothing can go wrong when you fuse eggs, soy sauce and pepper.

A Filipino domestic helper became a victim of an inhumane series of beatings by her employers for months ever since she started working for the family.

52-year-old security guard Janardana Jayasankarr has since been sentenced to 14 weeks' jail after pleading guilty to three charges of causing hurt, The Straits Times reports. His wife had already been sentenced to a week in jail last month.

Ever since Filipino national Miezel Cagas Limbaga started working for the couple in October 2014, she was not given any days off. Aside from doing housework chores, cooking and taking care of their young children, the 31-year-old bore the brunt of Janardana's temper.

Despite pretty mediocre reviews, they've made a follow-up movie to 2012's Snow White and the Huntsman, an unnecessary grimdark retelling of the fairy tale.

The Huntsman: Winter's War is said to be a prequel focusing on Thor Chris Hemsworth's character long before the birth of Snow White.

The prequel somehow amassed even more stars to the film, with Emily Blunt (Sicario, Edge of Tomorrow) and Jessica Chastain (Interstellar, Zero Dark Thirty) joining Charlize Theron and more reprising their roles.

In a case that could only happen in this day and age, a 17-year-old got hit by a bus while crossing the road — because his eyes were glued to his mobile phone. But of course.

Shin Min Daily News reports that the teen was hit at the junction of Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3 around 4.20pm last Friday, and even tried to get up after the accident.

The SMRT bus driver, as well as passing motorists, were seen helping the teen, telling him not to move and stay in his position.

An ambulance later arrived and conveyed the semi-conscious millennial to the National University Hospital, where he was treated for head injuries.

If you think 33 people getting food poisoning after eating Kuisine Catering's grub was already bad, it's about to get worse — nearly a hundred more have come out to report the very same thing.

Kuising Catering got some bad press last week after it was revealed that 33 guests of a birthday party came down with vomiting and diarrhoea the next day.

Thirty-three out of the 34 guests had eaten from the buffet prepared by the catering company — the individual who didn't get food poisoning ate only the birthday cake.

88-year-old Lee Ping Yeng had just bought some food at a coffee shop nearby her Teck Whye flat, and got into a lift to get back home back in April of 2014.

What she didn't expect however was that a young man would enter the lift, snatch her purse and run away. The theft caused her to lose balance, fall down and hit the back of her head on the floor.

The elderly woman laid there until neighbours found her, and she was later conveyed to the hospital. She died in hospital three days later.

Electronic dance music as a genre has seen a monumental expansion over the past couple of years or so, now being a billion dollar industry around the world.

It also says a lot when people just don't give much of a shit about the first ever EDM-centric awards show — DJ Paul Oakenfold's brainchild, the Electronic Music Awards and Foundation (EMAF).

Last week, the trance legend announced the various nominees for categories such as 'Single of the Year', 'Festival of the Year', 'DJ of the Year, and more EDM-inclined titles. The usual staple names such as Diplo, Disclosure, Calvin Harris, Skrillex appear of course.

Bloomberg data showed that the pound traded as low as S$1.9721 on Monday evening about 8.30pm — a level not seen since August 2013, when the value was at S$1.9702.

As passion lights up for local football, so do sparklers and flares — and S.League doesn't like it

Honestly, it's pretty heartwarming to see that the passion for Singapore football is on the rise again, with former English Premier League star Jermaine Pennant to thank for.

Many years of lacklustre turnout for local matches in the S.League have progressed to solid attendances ever since the ex-Liverpool bad boy signed on with the Tampines Rovers last month.

With heightened passions comes heightened antics from football fans, and the S.League had to come out and warn attendees against flouting the rules. To be specific, they warned against sparklers and flares being lit up at stadiums — such as the ones that were lit up by fans on Feb 18 during a match between Hougang United and Home United at Hougang Stadium.

Cue the metal music — residents in Punggol will be getting a pretty rad bus service that will transport them directly from their ulu neighbourhoods straight to the Central Business District. The service gets an appropriately radical bus service number too: 666, The Number of the bus Beast.

Of course, the fact that the new bus service possesses a devilish digital sequence aren't missed out by netizens, who — of course — left smart ass comments on the Land Transport Authority (LTA) Facebook page.

Four Indonesians — one of them as young as 15 years old — have been deported through Batam after they were caught using Singapore as a transit point to fly over to Syria to join the Islamic State.

Jakarta Globe reports that Singaporean authorities worked together with the Indonesian National Police after they grew suspicious of the four's intentions last Sunday. Barelang District Police and heavily-armed Gegana officers picked up the group at the Batam Center International Port before putting them into a special vehicle.

The first giraffe to be born in Singapore in 28 years has finally been given a name — and they've decided on Jubilee, an unapologetically obvious tribute to SG50, the year it was born.

The baby giraffe was born at the Singapore Zoo on Aug 31 last year as the first baby of mother Roni and father Growie, who were from respectively from Israel and the Netherlands, Channel NewsAsia reports.

Touted as the tallest SG50 baby at 1.9m tall, Jubilee now stands even taller at 2.7m.

Jubilee was voted as the top pick from a shortlist of five other names — Gamba, Gao Gao, Griffin, Max and... Growfie. Ugh.

It takes years of diligence to develop a good habit, which also means it takes the same amount of effort trying to get rid of one. Growing up in a sheltered and comfortable environment, many Singaporeans are unable to separate needs from wants. And because many have developed unrealistically high expectation of their standard of living, this eventually causes a strain on their salaries and, as a result, many go into debt woes and cashflow problems.

Archbishop William Goh

With less than a week to Madonna's first ever concert in Singapore throughout her whole 37-year career, Catholic and Christian communities here are making their voices of concern heard even louder.

According to the Archdiocesan Communications Office, Vatican-appointed Archbishop William Goh had already expressed his grave concerns to the various Ministries and Statutory Boards about the show on Feb 28.

He highlighted that "in multi-racial, multi-religious Singapore, we cannot afford to be overly permissive in favour of artistic expression at the expense of respect for one’s religion, especially in these times of heightened religious sensitivities, particularly among active practitioners of religions".

Amid rumours that he'll be taking the reins as manager of Manchester United, former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is in Singapore for a week for business.

When recently asked about plans about his possible future with Manchester United, the 53-year-old answered dryly that his future consists of being in London the next day before staying in Singapore for a week on "business-commercial" purposes.

"I am doing things that I cannot do when I am working," he said to reporters.
