Chef David Thompson

Later this month, Australian chef David Thompson is heading out to Bangkok to receive a lifetime achievement award from Diners Club at the Asia's 50 Best Restaurants event.

The down-to-earth chef, who realized that he was no longer interested in French cooking after going on holiday in Thailand, says he still has the same joy in cooking as when he first started, and that he feels very lucky.

“Usually I am rather embarrassed by awards but to receive something as significant as this, voted for by my peers in the industry, does indeed make me proud and grateful," he adds.

Thompson was responsible for starting a wave of excellent Thai restaurants in Sydney before flying off to London to start Nahm (which earned one Michelin star) and later branching out to Bangkok.

Love hurts deep, and love scams cut even deeper — $12 million went up in smoke last year, with the number of cases doubling since 2014.

According to the Singapore Police Force, the female gender formed the crux of internet love scam victims last year, with 80 percent of the of people conned being women aged between 30 and 60 years old. TODAY reports that most of the con artists would claim to be from the United Kingdom (English paramours, oo la la), forming relationships with the victims online before tricking them out of their money.

Today in Interweb history, reggae/R&B rapper Wyclef Jean hosted an Ask Me Anything (AMA) sesh on Reddit marking the 20th anniversary of The Score, the classic album of his hip hop group the Fugees.

The three-time Grammy Award-winning musician quickly found out he made a huge mistake.

Nevermind that The Score is considered one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time; nevermind his substantial work with the likes of Lauryn Hill, Shakira, and many others. He got absolutely fuckin' #rekt in his AMA session as everyone hammered him about his controversial Yéle Haiti charity. But more on that later.

Oh, if you're unfamiliar with his work, you might be familiar with this saucy one:

Enjoyed some cool, rainy days and nights the past few weeks? Yeah, well fun's over folks — the second half of February is about to get scorching.

And we really mean scorching.

Meteorological Service Singapore stated that this month could very well rank among the top five warmest months of February since records started in 1929.

Drier and warmer weather abound as the dry phase of the Northeast Monsoon season begins, with temperature forecasts for the next fortnight ranging between 25°C and 34°C. Additionally, the average monthly temperature for the month is likely to be warmer than the long-term average of 27.1°C for February. It's gonna be hot.

Patricia Tan was driving along Punggol Road with her daughter in the backseat yesterday evening when a freak occurrence transpired — a large tree fell directly onto the path of her car.

The tree opposite North Vista Secondary School was already falling by the time the vehicle was in range of the toppling — so she quickly sped up the car, according to Channel NewsAsia. If not for her quick reaction, the tree could have made a direct impact onto the Toyota sedan.

The tree still managed to hit the rear windscreen of the car, which was shattered. When Tan alighted from the car and checked on her 13-year-old daughter, who was in shock, screaming and crying with bits of glass all over her body.

In a massive bonfire that harks back to Kendrick Lamar's fiery performance at this week's Grammy Awards, a group of folks burning joss paper were caught taking their blaze to the next level.

It would have been a pretty awesome spectacle too, except for the fact that their little fire tornado was in the middle of a frickin' HDB estate.

600k Malaysians willing to hold down dirty, dangerous jobs... in Singapore

The notion that Malaysians are loathe to settle with a job that is 3D - dangerous, dirty, and difficult - are simply not true, says a local NGO.

It's just that more than half a million Malaysians hold down 3D jobs in neighbouring Singapore, not Malaysia itself. So ... yeah, we'll still need those 1.5 million Bangladeshi workers, then.

President of Pertubuhan Rapat Malaysia, A Rajaretinam told mStar's Loshana K Shagar that Malaysians are mainly shying away from tough jobs in the local market because of poor wages.

"According to our records, 600,000 Malaysians are working 3D jobs in Singapore. If they can bring themselves to do it outside the country, they can do the same here," Rajaretinam said at a press conference in KL today.

Local designer Kelley Cheng of publishing and design consultancy The Press Room recently took issue with a particularly horrible creative brief posted on the Government-to-business procurement portal GeBIZ.

Unlimited changes for everything? Able to present everything in any Chinese fonts? All work done within two working days? Inhumane indeed the clauses were, and her post went viral on Facebook, eliciting rage from the creative industry.

Today McDonald's introduces the breaded salmon burger with fancy paella spice mix

McDonald's Singapore Breaded Samon burger

Last November, we went gaga when McDonald's started selling truffle fries — which turned out to be, sigh, just your ordinary French fries served with a sachet of truffle powder. We're hoping that the product they launched today makes up for last year's disappointment.

The fancy-sounding Breaded Salmon with Paella Spice Mix burger (BSPSM burger sounds cooler) has a patty made of wild salmon chunks from Hokkaido flavoured with diced red and yellow capsicums and diced cheese. It's served in a bun topped topped with oat flakes, linseeds, rye flakes and sunflower seeds. Sounds good so far?

Apparently, this is what Singaporeans have been craving.
