Singaporeans based in the booming tech city of San Francisco welcomed Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong with open arms on Saturday as they celebrated Chinese New Year together.

The prime minister left for San Francisco last Wednesday for a working trip to meet the bigwigs of Silicon Valley, including Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Apple chief Tim Cook, Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, and Alphabet Inc's (formerly Google) Eric Schmidt. He even uploaded 360° video of his stroll on Facebook's rooftop garden. Mark Zuckerberg liked it, even.

Ah Valentine's Day. A day of romance, affection, passion and of course, heartbreak too. Nothing exemplifies the devastation and anguish of getting your love trashed by literally just that — a bouquet of vibrant flowers getting dumped in a rubbish bin by the side of the road.

Shanda Games International Vice President Addison Kang captured the Valentine's Day heartbreak in a glorious picture that needed no other words.

Shock turned to utter disgust for fans of local actress Rebecca Lim who announced a decision to retire at the prime of her career — before later declaring it was all false.

Why would she do that you may ask? Welp, as a marketing stunt to promote insurance company NTUC Income's Retirement Plan. Yeah, whodathunk that it would all blow up in her face?

The popular 29-year-old MediaCorp artist, who starred in Fighting Spiders, The Pupil, Unriddle 2 and more, delivered a devastating blow to her fans last Friday when she announced her retirement for a little change in her life.

In the spirit of "Huat ah!" a troupe of lion dancers led a cluster of motorists to lend a helping hand in the middle of a traffic jam — by moving an overturned lorry that had been blocking the lanes to the Bukit Panjang Expressway (BKE).

Netizen Nithi Ram captured the incident on his mobile phone and uploaded footage to his Facebook page, in which a lion dance group rushed to the scene of the accident. According to Nithi, the heavy rain caused a lorry to skid and overturn on the Zhenghua Flyover, blocking traffic at the Bukit Panjang entrance to the BKE towards PIE at 6pm yesterday.

As part of their their Valentine's Day long-form feature, TODAY ran a piece on power couples in Singapore's art scene, and to be honest it's a pretty good package.

All was not full of love, however. Apparently Ivan Heng — renowned artistic director of theatre company W!ld Rice — had been intentionally left out of the piece, despite having been approached by TODAY journalist Mayo Martin for the story.

Why? Oh, probably because Heng is married to another man— Tony Trickett, executive director of W!LD RICE.

B+Lim Salon at Naumi Hotel

At newly opened B+Lim hair salon, the hunt for its location is just as thrilling as the haircut you get from Japanese stylist Ryu Oba.

B+Lim, which opened in December 2015, is in a tiny space located at the basement of Naumi Hotel. The entrance is a the back. To get there, you walk down the alley between Seah and Purvis Street, which is lined with trash bins and as ghetto as it gets in central Singapore.

The high-profile likes of comedian Will Ferrell, Apple innovator Steve Wozniak, rapper Killer Mike and more may be feeling the Bern, but not New York-based Singaporean artist John Clang.

Clang had produced a stop-motion ad as part of a campaign for non-profit organisation Hopenhagen back in 2009, to raise awareness of the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. This is how it looks like:

We don't know if The Straits Times is taking the piss, but if they are, they're doing a great job at it. In one of their latest human interest stories, they featured a young woman whose main achievement and focus is the fact that she was born with a shiny silver spoon firmly embedded in her mouth.

In all its towering, grim glory, the iconic Changi Prison entrance gate, wall and turrets have been gazetted as a national monument by the National Heritage Board today.

The intimidating facade of the prison became Singapore's 72nd National Monument on the 74th anniversary of the nation's surrender to Japanese forces during World War 2.

Becoming operational in 1937, Changi Prison was designed with maximum security in mind (duh), complete with turrets serving as watchtowers and a 20-feet tall perimeter wall. The prison was historically significant for being an internment camp for civilians and Prisoners of War during the Japanese Occupation — over 5,000 people were packed within its walls, despite a maximum occupancy of 600 prisoners.

Despite expanding efforts by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) to crack down on drug abuse here, there has been a 6 percent increase in the arrests of druggies from 2014 to 2015.

A more worrying revelation is the fact that a lot more new drug abusers were arrested — 20 percent more to be exact. According to the CNB, 1,311 new offenders were arrested as compared to 2014's 1,093. Drugs are hooking in the young 'uns harder too, with nearly 70 percent of the new offenders being under 30 years of age.

Increasingly tolerant attitudes towards drugs (particularly among older youths) are to blame, says CNB director Ng Ser Song. Amidst lowered opposition against weed overseas (as well as increasing legalisations), the humble cannabis has displaced heroin to become the second most abused drug in Singapore, after meth.

Using pet names such as "Daddy" and "Daughter", a former primary school teacher took his relationship with a young girl to lewd levels when he proceeded to engage in sexual acts with the then 12-year-old.

35-year-old Mandarin teacher Du Tao has since been sentenced to 21 months in jail after pleading guilty to the sexual assault of the girl he met online through photo-editing app Mei Pai in 2014, Channel NewsAsia reports.

The two continued to chat on WeChat, and the girl even sent him photographs of herself in her primary school uniform. She called him "Daddy" due to their massive age gap, while Du called her "nu er"— "daughter" in Mandarin.

Leave it to the Government to make unreasonable, unaccommodating and honestly irrational demands upon the industry they misunderstand the most — the creative industry.

A brief posted on the Government-to-business procurement portal GeBIZ recently went viral for all the wrong reasons, showcasing the worst conditions ever for creative agencies. Designer Kelley Cheng — of publishing and design consultancy The Press Room — took issue with the inhumane brief and posted it up on her Facebook page

"Multiple Demands for Unlimited Changes for Design Services on Gebiz," she writes.

"As a designer, I Protest, Do you? Please share this post if you are against Unlimited Changes - Be the Change you want to see in the world."

Divian Nair may be more known for his past work as radio personality on 987FM, or his acting stint on Mata Mata, and of course that viral short film he directed with Dee Kosh in 2014.

Yesterday however, he appeared in another viral video — but this one's a lot more meaningful and heartfelt than anything he's ever done before. To kick off the launch of apolitical civic initiative We Are Majulah, Nair makes a passionate plea to all Singaporeans in a message of unity and progress. The campaign calls for Singapore to unite under the banner of 'Majulah', bonding together in a spirit of onward-ness in the face of potential crisis.

Regulars of Al Jilani Restaurant can be pretty hardcore fanatics of the humble coffee shop along Bencoolen Street.

Located close to art schools La Salle College and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, the 24-hour eatery has been a reliable haunt for affordable local fare for years. Despite the array of food tasting being pretty mediocre, folks keep coming back to Al Jilani for its geographic convenience — but most of all for Ah Mei, the coffeeshop's most popular figure.
