Parkway Parade was shut down yesterday by the mall's management after a small fire on Sunday night, although tenants were not informed. No injuries occurred and no one was evacuated after the fire broke out on the second floor, but the water sprinklers switched on and the building had to be cleaned up after the Singapore Civil Defence Force put out the flames.
As of last night, the mall said it would be closed until further notice to continue with the checks and rectification works. Although the office tower and banks on the first level are open, the carpark remains closed.
It seems that several areas on the first two floors were flooded and covered in soot. Even though employees turned up for work yesterday morning, they couldn't enter the six-storey shopping centre until mid-afternoon, when they were allowed in to look at the damage to their units.
