Everyone's getting hyped over Hitman: Agent 47, yet another reboot of a pretty recent movie franchise starring Homeland's Rupert Friend, Star Trek's Zachary Quinto, Jessie Ware's older sister Hannah Ware and —drum roll — Singapore herself.
The trailer honestly looks pretty slick and all, and it helps that we're actually familiar with the streets and landmarks in the movie. Unfortunately, now that it's released in theatres, it's been getting pretty shit reviews left and right. As of writing, it stands at 5% on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 20 reviews), and Metacritic gave the film a red score of 29 over 100, indicating 'generally unfavorable reviews'.
But don't take it from us, here are what some professional film critics have to say about Hitman: Agent 47.
Really, we can only blame it on ourselves for putting too much high hopes on a movie adaptation of a video game, which Hollywood just. can't. get. done. right.
Variety's Justin Chang called the film the "junky, incoherent shoot-'em-up we feared it might be", but this quote from his review takes the cake."But what to call it, exactly? The 47th best action film of 2015? A feature-length Audi commercial, or a promo reel for the Singapore Tourism Board?"
Yeesh. This does raise the question though — will any other blockbuster film bigwigs ever consider shooting in Singapore anymore after this bomb of a movie?
