Cat posterHot on the heels of suspected poisoning that allegedly caused mass cat deaths in Pasir Ris Park (though the authorities found no evidence), another disturbing series of cat abuse rears its ugly head in the district of Sembawang.  In recent days, residents near the Sembawang Drive area bore witness to a series of dead community cats, with signs that clearly pointed to animal abuse — one was suspected to be poisoned, while another was brutally beaten to death. Community cat caretakers have been posting up notices in the neighbourhood as well, alerting all about the horrible incidents as well as calling out for witnesses.  Speaking to Coconuts Singapore, a resident of the Sembawang Drive area noted that the community cat feeders have found six cat bodies in the area so far. "I usually see two to four cats around the neighbourhood but not anymore since the posters appeared a few days ago," says Illya Natesa, who regularly posts images of the community cats on her Instagram account.  One of her favourite felines by the name of Minah was found dead last Friday in the Canberra Primary School compound with foam in her mouth, she sadly noted.  Meanwhile, the feeders are still looking into other areas nearby that are being affected, including another incident of animal abuse in Wellington Circle. Since the appearance of the posters, cat owners have been keeping their pets inside their houses out of fear.  Illya also notes that a complaint about the community cats had been filed before two years ago, which could very well be related to the recent spate of killings.  Those with any information that could help with the case can contact one of the community cat feeders at 9270 3797.  Photo: Isabella Wai Facebook page; Instagram screengrab
