'Rain Umbrella' by Chen Wei
Ota Fine Arts presents Noon Insomnia, a solo exhibition of 12 representative works by the Chinese artist Chen Wei. Within this survey of the artist's works is the mysterious Rain umbrella, depicting a familiar object in an unfamiliar manner. Photographed in the artist’s studio, long needles puncture the umbrella, rendering the object obsolete. The umbrella stands precariously balanced on its handle and the needles pointing in every direction. This surrealism reveals the beauty in an object being used for something other than its original function.
See 'Rain Umbrella' and more works by Chen Wei at Noon Insomnia, Ota Fine Arts (7 Lock Road, #02-13 Gillman Barracks, S 108935). Till Aug 15. Tue-Sat 11am-7pm, Sun 11am-6pm.
This column is in collaboration with The Artling – a curated selection of Art from Asia’s best galleries and artists, www.theartling.com.
