A family's day out yesterday visiting relatives for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations was cut short in a devastating manner when their vehicle got involved in an accident that lead to the death of a motorcyclist.
46-year-old Aziz Semat and his family had been travelling along Yishun Avenue 2 yesterday afternoon and was about to make a left turn to Yishun Ring Road near Khatib MRT station when his sedan jolted forward from a collision at the rear.
The cause? A motorcycle collided into the back of his car so hard that it left a great dent at the trunk. The motorcycle that crashed into the car was reportedly mangled, with parts scattered all over, according to The New Paper. A woman in her 60s was struggling in pain, while a man — also in his 60s — laid motionless on the road.
The police and the Singapore Civil Defence Force were immediately called in to the scene, where paramedics conveyed the female pillion rider straight to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital nearby. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident created a traffic jam stretching over a kilometre along that busy stretch of road. Aziz and his family managed to escape with only minor injuries during the accident.
Police are currently investigating the incident.
