Just call her Isabelle.
A six-month-old baby dolphin finally received a name after a 10-week contest that saw more than 800 entries.
The name was suggested by Mikayla, a girl from Australia, who took it from her best friend in kindergarten. It was entered by her father, Nicholas Berry-Smith, who interacted with Isabelle in April, when the calf made her first appearance with mother Tian Tang.
The Indo-pacific bottlenose dolphin is said to be independent, playful and curious.
“She invents games to play, with her favourite being to release a bubble at the bottom of the lagoon, and following the bubble up to the surface before bursting it with her rostrum. She also loves using her mouth to ‘catch’ streams of water from the water hose,” according to Adrian Penny, director of operations at RWS' SEA Aquarium and Dolphin Island.
