Just a week after a man was charged for speeding through the Tuas checkpoint last Tuesday (over under-declared curry puffs and kueh), two more people have repeated the same offence over the past two days at the Woodlands checkpoint.
According to The Straits Times, the first case took place on Monday at 3.50am, when a 41-year-old Malaysian national in a Singapore-registered car failed to stop for clearance at the immigration counter. The Arrival Car Zone was placed under immediate lockdown after the alarm was activated and the man, who is also a Singapore permanent resident, was placed under immediate arrest.
The second case took place on the following day at about 5.10am, when a 34-year-old Malaysian female in a Malaysia-registered car was tailgating another car in front at the Woodlands Checkpoint. This driver was far less compliant and officers had to smash both front and rear passenger windows to escort her out of the vehicle after she refused to unlock the vehicle. She was found to have been trying to travel with expired travel documents and was subsequently placed under arrest.
The ICA said it is investigating both cases and added that those who fail to stop for immigration clearance will be firmly dealt with according to the law.
