Looks like there'll be lesser fun and games for the upcoming freshmen of Nanyang Technological University — plans for their Union Orientation Camp (UOC) this year have been axed.
According to the NTU Students' Union (NTUSU), organisers were found not to have adequately planned for the camp, while measures to ensure the safety and well-being of participants were lacking in accordance with university guidelines.
Concerns of safety have been high on the university's priority ever since four students were rushed to hospital for treatment after suffering seizures during a Nanyang Business School orientation camp last year, The Straits Times reports."As NTUSU priorities the safety and well-being of students, we have no choice but to turn down registrations for UOC 2015," wrote Union president Wu Guoyi in a press release.
Following the announcement, students indicated their utmost disappointment on the NTUSU Facebook page, mostly about the unsatisfactory explanation given over the cancellation of the UOC.
