In celebration of the nation’s 50th birthday, more than 600 life-sized cows will be placed around the island by Moove Media, the advertising arm of transport company ComfortDelGro. The beautiful bovines will be placed in 68 locations such as Orchard Road, Sengkang and Bishan, from Monday till July 12.
Standing at 1.76m each, the SG50 Moove cow will represent eight historical characters - the Coolie, the Rickshaw Man, the Kacang Puteh Man, the Satay Man, the domestic helper or "Ma Jie" as they were then called, the Samsui Woman, the Nyonya, as well as the Wayang Opera Diva.
Unlike the cows of previous years’ campaigns, the SG50 cows have been specially designed with the nation’s pioneers in mind to remember and honour their efforts in building Singapore into the strong nation that it is today, said Mrs Jayne Kwek, chief executive of Moove Media, in an interview with The Straits Times.
As part of its #SG50MooveCows campaign, Moove Media is also organising an interactive online contest to encourage the public to post photographs or videos of themselves posing with their favourite SG50 Moove cow on its Facebook page — participants will stand to win attractive prizes worth over $20,000, including an iPhone and an iPad.
Those who are mad about cows can keep the cows from July 13 for a small fee at $300 each. It’s way cheaper than rearing a live cow and all proceeds from the sale will go towards the ComfortDelGro/Lions Befrienders’ Home Improvement Fund which serves to improve the living conditions of the elderly residing in one-room flats. It'll be udderly heartwarming to know that not only will these cows be going to a loving home, but the quality of living of these elderly will also be improved.
