Humans of Singapore: One inspiring story at a time

Something uplifting to start your week — a random person's photo together with his or her life story. Photos and heartwarming stories of people who live in Singapore are the subject of the Instagram account-slash-website Humans of Singapore. Inspired by the US-based Humans of New York, which started in 2010, HOS was started by management consutant Shitj Nigam, 24, two years ago. He is now assisted by a friend, Arti Batavia, 24. Their project is featured in today's Straits Times. Their subjects are varied, from uncles and aunties to kids and dogs. What they all have in common is a story. "Having a person share intimate details about his life is a very moving experience. People can really surprise you. It's taught me to give everyone the benefit of the doubt," Nigam tells ST. "We want the people featured to be from every facet of society. We try to keep the process organic as we don't want to dilute the message," adds Ms Batavia.
