$20k worth of illegal health products seized by HSAThe Health Sciences Authority (HSA) is on a roll. Over 11,000 units of illegal health products, consisting of unlicensed western medicines, slimming products and contact lens, which have a street value of more than S$20,000 were seized by the HSA. As reported by The Straits Times, some of the seized items included 400 capsules of an unlicensed drug labelled as the sexual enhancement drug Viagra, which the seller had ordered online and intended to sell at 10 times its original cost. Tests revealed traces of sildenafil, which can cause serious adverse effects. Not only will people be wasting their money, but more importantly they are putting their manhood or worse, life at risk. This week-long enforcement blitz from June 9 to 16 was part of Operation Pangea, a global initiative coordinated by Interpol to crack down on the unregulated online sale of illegal and counterfeit medicines. As much as some people are into alternative living, the HSA is urging people to seek proper medical attention instead of self-medicating or purchasing health products from dubious sources.
