Two years since the gruesome accident that saw a Korean family and a Singaporean man perish in one fell swoop, justice has finally been served to the man that perpetrated it.
The Straits Times reports that 36-year-old Toh Cheng Yang has been sentenced to five years in prison and banned from driving for 20 years after admitting to causing the deaths of four people during his reckless drug-hazed drive along the Central Expressway (CTE) on in the early morning of Aug 9, 2013.
The four casualties — 23-year-old Amron Ayoub, his girlfriend 24-year-old Song Jisoo as well as her parents 55-year-old Song Jungwoo and 53-year-old Kim Mee Kyung — had stopped at the Chevron markings before the exit to Yio Chu Kang Road along the CTE to fix a punctured tire when Toh rammed into them and their vehicle. The Korean family died on the spot while Amron died an hour later in hospital.
The only survivor of the deadly accident was Song's brother, 32-year-old professional golfer Song Seounghwan who had been standing at the side of the car and only got grazed.
Last month, it was revealed in court that Toh was high on Nitrezepam and was most likely drunk as well during his reckless drive.
