The 28th SEA Games may have ended on a glorious note yesterday evening for hosting country Singapore ( a record 84 gold medal haul) but it was not so sweet for the hundreds of stranded spectators who were unable to enter the stadium despite having tickets.
Ticket holders who arrived for the ceremony were shocked to find massive queues outside the stadium gates as volunteers herded them across different gates but remained stuck outside the stadium, according to various media reports.
Some even managed to enter the stadium but were not able to be seated and had to stand awkwardly around the premises, watching the grand ceremony come to a close. Eventually the crowds were told that the stadium was full, leading to bursts of anger directed at the helpless volunteers manning the gates while others simply tore up their tickets and left.
The SEA Games organisers issued a statement on their Facebook page about the gaffe last night, citing the there was a need to adjust entry gates and seating arrangements, and that some gates had to be closed for safety reasons.

From the comments posted by the numerous angry ticket holders, everyone had complaints about piss-poor crowd management and confusing instructions by the ushers. Others were just mad that they didn't get their free fun packs or that some stuff were missing from their goodie bags.
The organisers are officering a full refund and a supporters' medallion to anyone who purchased a ticket but were unable to be seated. Presumably, those who got complimentary ones will get jack shit.
