The man behind the fire that razed the doors of two HDB units in Jurong East in a case of loanshark harassment has been arrested by the police.
Last Saturday, the 31-year-old loanshark runner had allegedly set fire in front of the two units at Block 272 Toh Guan Road to target a debtor who lived downstairs. He was not able to target the unit of the debtor itself as a police camera was installed nearby to deter such harassment.
The suspect's identity was established after extensive probes and police cameras mounted in the vicinity of the incident's location. He was caught at Lorong 5 Toa Payoh on Monday around 5.20pm, where police also seized loanshark-related paraphernalia such as cans of paint, bicycle chain locks and marker pens.
Investigations revealed that the suspect was involved in more than 10 cases of loanshark harassment across Singapore, including five more cases of pyromanic mischief.
