In a series of unfortunate events, a man has been left disabled after being struck by a car that accidentally mounted the kerb after the driver lost control of his vehicle.
34-year-old land surveyor Chinnathambi Karuppiah had been carrying out his work on a pedestrian footpath in front of Tanjong Pagar Railway Station when 27-year-old relief security guard Johanis Mohamad lost control of his car while changing lanes, The Straits Times reports.
Johanis had been driving home along Keppel Road in July two years ago, and changed lanes so abruptly that his car mounted onto the pavement. The collision with Chinnathambi was so violent that the impact flung the man 24m away, and left him severely disabled.
The security guard has since been jailed for two weeks and disqualified from driving for three years.
