Not all sports are created equal.
At a media briefing yesterday, Singapore SEA Games organising committee chairman Lim Teck Yin revealed that while up to 85 per cent of the tickets for the fencing and swimming events have been sold, those for boxing, silat, judo and table tennis are not moving as fast.
“Many of the ticketed events have crossed the 70 per cent mark,” Lim is quoted in this Channel NewsAsia report. “These include swimming, fencing, rhythmic gymnastics, silat and wushu. Others like billiards and snooker, equestrian, sepak takraw, taekwondo, and artistic gymnastics are hovering around the 50 per cent mark and selling quickly."
There are 18 ticketed sports events and it's Singapore's first time to host the Games in 22 years.
Meanwhile, all spectators at the closing ceremony on Jun 16 (8pm) will receive a medallion — a smaller version of the gold medal for athletes. Unfortunately, we checked the ticketing site and seats are already unavailable. Boohoo.
