Drunk and unruly customers at coffeeshops are certainly a handful, and who better to handle them than the very people who serve the beers themselves?
By next month, beer servers — endearingly called 'beer aunties'— at more than 500 coffee shops and hawker centres across Singapore would have learnt the know how on recognising drunk customers and handle rowdy ones better after undergoing training by Asia Pacific Breweries (APB) Singapore.
The Straits Times reports that the three-hour course delivered in Mandarin includes theory lessons, discussions, role play and more, where beer aunties learn to spot signs of intoxication and how to prevent patrons from drinking more by chatting with them and suggesting them to get some food in them.
APB Singapore however notes that it'll be impossible to eliminate all alcohol-related issues that occur at coffee shops and hawker centres — but at least the training will help mitigate such problems.
