Parkour enthusiast and YouTuber Ben Matchap conducted a social experiment in the streets of Dhoby Ghaut, in which he printed the Singapore flag onto an A4-sized paper and left it in front of the busy pavement in front of the School of the Arts to see if anyone would pick it up.
In typical Singaporean fashion, nobody gave a shit. As it laid on the ground for around 10 to 15 minutes, folks either walked pass or stepped on it, and one person even took a photo of the piece of paper — he probably slapped on a gritty photo filter and posted it on Instagram with a patriotic caption or something. "I wanted to see how Singaporeans would react to our flag being on the floor. I was hoping to see someone pick it up," he states. "It was quite shocking and disheartening to see that no one bothered to pick up our flag some people even stepped on it."
To be fair, the results aren't really surprising at all, considering its just some piece of paper. Try a proper flag instead, and Singaporeans will scramble to pick it up.
