For shoving a one-year-old boy off his bed and causing the toddler to sustain serious injuries to his head, a 24-year-old man has been charged for voluntarily causing grievous hurt in court today.
Struggling from anger management issues, Franklie Tan Guang Wei had pushed his girlfriend's young son in a fit of rage. The boy is still under treatment at the KK Children's Hospital's high dependency ward, TODAY reports.
An assessment by the Institute of Mental Health found that Tan is not of unsound mind and is fit to plea. He has been ordered to surrender his passport and not have direct or indirect contact with the boy or his mother — reportedly pregnant with his child.
Tan, the sole breadwinner in a low-income family will have come up with a $10,000 cash bail with a $10,000 non-cash bail due to the severity of the charge.
The charges against Tan will be amended should the boy's condition worsen.
