![Disturbed A*Star scholar who poisoned classmates expelled from Stanford University]()
The mentally disturbed Singaporean Stanford Medical School student who poisoned her classmates has officially been kicked out of the prestigious university.
26-year-old A*Star scholar Ouyang Xiangyu was charged in California with four counts of poisoning her lab mates late last year and was initially banned from campus. Speaking to The Straits Times, Stanford confirmed that she has officially been expelled from the school.
She had been full-time member of the Nusse Laboratory at the department of developmental biology at Stanford University since June last year.
Ouyang is currently out on a $50,000 bail as she awaits a May court date.
Prior to the poisoning her labmates, she allegedly sabotaged one of their experiments, with video footage revealing her presence at the times and dates when the incidents occurred.
About a month later, she laced the water bottles of two other classmates with paraformaldehyde (PFA), a commonly used substance in biology and lethal if ingested. The students who had their drinking water poisoned complained of a burning sensation in the throats.
Ouyang — who maintained that she was "not aware of what she was doing"— is expected to plead guilty due to insanity.
