Dr. Lee Wei Ling — the only daughter of the nation's founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew — has penned a touching tribute to her father on The Straits Times, thanking all who braved the elements to bid farewell and pay respects during the State Funeral Procession.
However, it seems that she's also pretty miffed about all the underhanded criticisms lodged at her dad by the Western media.
In her post-funeral tribute, she goes on a diatribe against the "rather condescending" Western press who have been "cynical about Singapore's democracy" as well as expressing her disappointment at Singaporeans who bought into their "dismissive views". "...I was very happy to see Singaporeans reject Western journalists who wrote dismissively of Papa and the response of Singaporeans to his death," she wrote.
Admitting her strong anti-colonial sentiments, she calls for Singaporeans to stop bowing down to the white man, and to maintain the heritage and culture cultivated here.
"We should walk proud with no chip on our shoulder, and retain the mutual respect and empathy that we now know we are capable of."
