Lee Kuan Yew's ancestral home in China to turn into tourist attraction Got a tip? Send it to us at singapore@coconuts.co. Hong Kong's Wen Wei Po reports that the late Lee Kuan Yew's ancestral home, Zhonghandi, in Guangdong, China, will be transformed into a tourist attraction.  The authorities are apparently spending approximately S$8.8 million on the project, which involves creating a "rural tourist destination with Chinese Hakka cultural characteristics", says The Straits Times.  Work already began last year and the first phase, which consists of a Lee Kuan Yew Memorial Hall, will be completed by the end of this year.  The house in Dabu county was built in 1884 by Mr. Lee's great grandfather,  Li Muwen, who'd earned the money for it in Singapore.  The structure and the area around it was refurbished by the local authorities between 2007 and 2008, after which exhibitions were held there so visitors could glimpse the life and background of Singapore's founding Prime Minister.  Photo: Xinhua News Agency
