Even as the country mourns the death of founding father Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore's art community will be hard at work in France to showcase the city's arts portfolio. Singapour en France – Le Festival kicks off today at Palais de Tokyo, the modern art museum in Paris. It's a S$6-million-funded showcase that will last three months, organized by Singaporean government agencies along with the Institut Francais."Spread over seven French cities, the festival will promote artists from Singapore and is part of the city-state's celebration of 50 years as an independent nation," reports Sonia Kolesnikov-Jessop in International New York Times. There are 25 core events conceived by organizers and 45 by participating partners, Tan Boon Hui, festival artistic director, explains in the report. "The artistic focus of the festival is to portray Singapore as a city that is always looking toward the future, that is finding new ways, new possibilities, new cracks in between, to open itself," he says. The festival features various works from Singaporean artists in disciplines including film, design, performing arts and lifestyle components, featuring work by Rizman Putra, Slong Lan Musical Association, Charles Lim and many more.  Visitors to the Paris fair when it opens later will be greeted by "Listening", this sculpture (see below) by Singaporean artist Hua Kuan Sai. Wish we were there.    Hear hear!
