Amidst the National Mourning period for the death of his father and celebrated statesman Lee Kuan Yew, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has taken some time off to send his condolences to Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel and the Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy over the tragic crash of Germanwings flight 4U 9525.
The plane carrying 150 people — consisting mostly of Germans and Spanish passengers — crashed in the French Alps on the way from Barcelona to Dusseldorf two days ago, with no survivors.
The budget airline, owned by the Lufthansa airline company, reportedly possessed an excellent safety record prior to the accident.
The Prime Minister expressed his immense sadness over the loss of lives and extended his deepest condolences to both the German and Spanish leaders.
