Not that yesterday was a disaster, anyway.
Despite there having been a reported 59,400 people queueing to see the Lying-in- State at the Parliament House up till midnight yesterday, things were very much in order. Sure there were some issues like the unprecedented volume and erratic weather, but these got sorted out so efficiently — both by the organisers and queueing citizens — that it's been said we yesterday passed the first test of "post-LKY Singapore".
After extending the mourning period to 24 hours daily till March 28, the queues stop swelling and waiting time dropped from an astounding eight-hour average to just under three hours. Visitors of the Parliament House were also allowed to linger longer, as opposed to the earlier ones who were made to walk briskly past the casket.
Today the queue began 7am at the Padang, where there's a designated queue for expecting women, children under six years, as well as the elderly.
