Come Mar 27, indie cinema The Projector plays host to a cinematic experience like no other with the screening of Fritz Lang's Metropolis, the 1972 German classic, accompanied by live musical component by Paul Searles of sound design collective The Gunnery Pte Ltd.
As one of the first few works that paved the way for feature-length sci-fi films, Metropolis was the most expensive film ever made during its period, costing approximately five million Reichsmarks. Initially lost to time, restoration works to the film have been made since the '70s, with Lang's original cut of the film found in an Argentinean museum in 2008. Ever since, it has been 95 percent restored and screened in Berlin and Frankfurt in 2010.
As part of the Endeavors Documentary Film Festival, the futurist epic will be screened as originally intended and as seen by German cinema-goers next week at The Projector, and the live musical accompaniment should provide a unique experience for film enthusiasts.
