Amidst all the frenzy on social media, in Singapore General Hospital and on international news outlets last night, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) released an update at 11.20AM on the health condition of former Prime Minister and Singapore icon Lee Kuan Yew — and no, it's not a hoax.
The 91-year-old former statesman has been on life support at the intensive care unit since 5 Feb where he is receiving treatment for severe pneumonia. His condition had stabilized in the subsequent weeks, though he remained on mechanical ventilation.
Yesterday, the Prime Minister's Office said that Lee's health "remains critically ill" and that his condition "deteriorated further" a day after they started giving him antibiotics to treat an infection.
As the minutes continue to pass into hours, an anxious air currently grips the nation as they await what surely must be news of his impending passing of the man who engineered modern Singapore into existence.
Other than news of him remaining critically ill in the intensive care unit, not much else is known about the ongoings in his ward at Singapore General Hospital, where various reporters currently await for breaking news.
