Despite being choked to unconsciousness, stuffed in a suitcase, forcibly ingesting poison, raped and slashed, a 24-year-old Malaysian woman lived through a sickening episode dealt by her former boyfriend in a flat located in the western district of Singapore.
The 24-year-old Singaporean boyfriend was sentenced to seven years in prison yesterday as well as six strokes of the cane after pleading guilty to rape and causing hurt by using a poisonous substance, The New Paper reports.
The pair had met in 2012 when the married woman was working in a Johor Bahru shopping mall. After a month of exchanging text messages, they became a couple and she left behind her matrimonial home in Malaysia to live with her boyfriend in his family home. The man's parents, his sister and her boyfriend also lived in the same unit.
After their relationship deteriorated, she decided to move out in June 2013 to reconcile with her husband in Johor Bahru.
The jilted man continued to harass her, begging for her to meet up and even threatening to look for her in Malaysia. Not wanting any trouble, the woman returned to Singapore and stayed with the man in his flat.
By the end of the next day, she was determined to end the relationship and wanted to return home. However, he refused to let her out and a quarrel broke out.
Alone in the house, the man pinned down the woman and pressed a pillow over her mouth and strangled her as neck well. She lost consciousness soon after.
Failing to revive her, he retrieved two suitcases and tried to stuff her into them. She couldn't fit inside them so she was carried back to the bed.
Frustrated, he then grabbed a bottle of concentrated air freshener and sprayed its contents into her mouth in a farcical attempt to commit suicide together. She immediately vomited on the floor.
Intensely weakened by what she what through, she had no strength to escape. The man then proceeded to take off her vomit-stained clothes to clean her up.
He got turned on while undressing her. He put on a condom and raped the woman in her semi-conscious state.
Still adamant on ending both their lives after the sexual assault, he took out a utility knife and used it to slash her right wrist and stomach. He then ingested some air freshener liquid, swallowed prescription tablets and laid down beside her.
After some time, the woman regained consciousness and wanted to go home. The man let her go.
She called her sister to pick her up and went back to Johor Bahru. She returned to Singapore the very next day to make a police report.
A few days later however, she found out that she was pregnant during a medical examination. The baby was later delivered, but the paternity of the child remains a mystery.
