The once-dense greenery of the hill beside Bukit Batok MRT station has been replaced with the dreary brown hue of barren land, and was thought to be an unfortunate byproduct of the efforts carried out to eliminate the rat infestation that plagued the area last year.
However, pest controllers have maintained that the clearing of vegetation is not due to their operations.
Speaking to Channel NewsAsia, the pest control company behind last year's termination operation believes that the authorities are carrying out routine maintenance.
The Housing and Development Board (HDB) have also stated that the area is undergoing an upkeep, and that the barren land will only be temporary as re-turfing is being carried out.
Pest controllers reported that they have yet to discover any new indications of rat population in the area, but warned that they could return if residents continue to dispose food improperly or continue feeding stray animals.
