Finally, something different from the usual news of the latest bar/restaurant/cafe openings. If you're a fan of something more hearty, local and doesn't burn a black hole in your wallet, you'll be glad to know that the Government are planning to build 10 more hawker centres over the next 12 years.
These hawker centres will be located in new estates or existing ones that lack such facilities, said Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Grace Fu in Parliament yesterday. Locations such as Bidadari, Sengkang, Choa Chu Kang, Bukit Panjang have already been identified for the erection of hawker centres, while the locations of the remaining ones will be made known later in the year. "Our hawker centres are an essential social infrastructure – they provide a clean and hygienic environment for our hawkers to ply their trade and enable Singaporeans access to good food at affordable prices," she remarked.
