Colossal chemical factory fire in Jurong leaves three in hospitalResidents of Jurong East were winding down into the weekend last Friday night when a chemical factory in the industrial district of Tanjong Penjuru was spotted ablaze as far as two kilometres away.   The colossal fire was reported to be at least five storeys tall as thick plumes of black smoke billowed from the factory, according to witnesses speaking to The New Paper.  The Singapore Civil Defence Force was alerted to the incident at 8.53pm and deployed a contingent of SCDF responders due to the scale of the fire. It was discovered that the fire involved contents in the production area of the chemical plants. Six water jets were utilised to encircle the fire and also help cool down the factory's cylindrical tanks, believed to contain chemicals.  The inferno was put within 90 minutes, while three workers were taken to Singapore General Hospital; two of whom suffered burns.  Photo: SCDF Facebook page
