Druggists 119 Tyrwhitt Rd, SingaporeCOCONUTS HOT SPOT — Not too long ago, a beer around Jalan Besar meant one of three things: a big bottle of Tiger at a coffee shop, a tepid Foster’s at a shady hostess bar or a tall can of Anchor downed double-quick time outside a 7-Eleven. In just a few months though, we’ve seen the scene evolve into a hop hound haven. It started with the opening of The 1925, Singapore’s youngest microbrewery. Now, a tap house has set up shop to serve some of the world’s best beers fresh from the keg.   Read Also:  – Copper Bar is an ode to gin and steampunk – This bar in Bugis makes and serves makgeolli on tap  From the same people behind The Drinking Partners and The Great Beer Experiment, Druggists is a craft beer bar that has an impressive 23 brews on tap. It’s located on the ground floor of the Singapore Chinese Druggists Association building (no prizes for guessing where they got their name from), a shophouse built more than 80 years ago. It’s so old that its original building plans – written in Chinese – list its address on a street that no longer exists. De Molen, Mikkeller, To Øl and all the usual suspects are here along with some of the “lighter” members from The Drinking Partners portfolio – think Lindemans fruit beers. Unusual offerings like dry-hopped coffee will also be added to the mix from time to time. Prices start at $8 for 250ml and $15 for 500ml. If you happen to own a growler, you can get it filled up here to enjoy at home. All their beers are poured from a custom-made, self-assembled, tap system modelled after the one they used to good effect at Beerfest Asia last year. With their menu of local dishes, Druggists aims to show that beer-appropriate cuisine is more than just typical pub grub. For the uninitiated, they have a few helpful pairing suggestions. Their sambal fish ($12) can be complemented with a pale ale, an IPA or a hoppy lager while the coffee pork ribs is a good match for a stout or porter. For dessert, try the gula balls with a glass of dark ale. As things pick up, the team at Druggists will be introducing weekend breakfasts and one-off beer dinners, so keep tabs on their Facebook page to get in on the action. Druggists is at 119 Tyrwhitt Rd, +65 9385 1752. Tue-Thu 4pm-11pm, Fri 4pm-12am, Sat 2pm-12am, Sun 2pm-11pm.   Got a tip?
