Noisy renovation works can drive you bonkers, but 41-year-old Goh Buck Song takes it to the next level by threatening the noisemakers with a knife.
Irritated by the drilling noise blaring from a hawker stall at the foot of his HDB block at Ang Mo Kio, Goh went down to confront the stall owner, 39-year-old Chiong Chee San, about the racket on Jan 17. His hatred for the noise (Goh lived one storey above the noodle stall) was so extreme that he smashed a glass cup on the floor in a rage before returning to his flat, The New Paper reports.
Goh's father came down five minutes later to get into a heated argument with the stall owner about the noise as well. Hearing the altercation downstairs, his son grabbed a 25cm-long cleaver from his kitchen and headed down to the noodle stall armed and ready.
The alarmed Chiong called the police soon after Goh and his father left the scene. Goh was arrested and the knife was seized as evidence.
In court yesterday, he was fined $1,000 for causing alarm. He could have been jailed for up to six months and fined up to $5,000 under the Protection from Harassment Act.
