![Man gets five months' in jail after abducting baby in anger]()
Right in front of his mother, an eight-month old baby son was snatched and abducted to parts unknown for two hours before the police found the young 'un and the kidnapper.
For his felonious actions, 35-year-old Shamsol Arifin Yusoff was sentenced to five months in prison and a $1,500 fine for one count of affray and one count of abduction on Wednesday, The New Paper reports.
The man had gotten to know the boy's mother through her husband, who is currently serving time for drug-related offences. According to the mother, 31-year-old Mia, Shamsol used to visit her once per month to watch television or hang around from 7pm to 11pm.
It was in October last year that Shamsol suddenly turned up at her flat, fuming in anger. Reportedly, he was sharpening a knife and complained to Mia that he just had a quarrel with his friends. While Mia was conducting her evening prayers around 11pm, he went into the room where her eight-month old son was sleeping and carried him.
As he continued to hold the baby in his arms and started to stride out the flat, Mia tried to stop him but was shoved aside. As Shamsol continued to run down the stairs with the baby, the mother tried to chase him but couldn't find both her son and the captor at the ground floor.
After making a police report, Shamsol was found and arrested near Bukit Panjang Plaza about two hours later.
A checkup at KK Women's and Children's Hospital revealed that the baby had blue marks on his shoulders, back and thigh, sustained from Shamsol's tight grip.
In court, he mentioned that he had only taken out his 'stepson' to calm himself down.
For abduction, he could have been sentenced to jail for up to seven years, along with a fine and caning. His charge for affray was for an earlier incident where he got into an altercation with another man at a Bukit Batok coffee shop a month before the abduction took place.
