Oh dear. In a rather absurdist scene at the Law Society of Singapore office lobby, prominent human rights lawyer M Ravi arrives at the premises armed with a singular protestor, a cameraman and a whole lot of things to say about his prohibition from legal practice, pending a medical examination demanded by the society's council.
Highlights of the highly entertaining video include:
- A protestor holding up a relatively small protest placard
- The protestor pretending not to know which button opens the door in a bid to harass a representative of the Law Society. She turns on and off various light switches instead.
- Ravi articulately reprimands the protestor. We find later find out that she is Ravi's sister.
- "You know Lee Hsien Loong — he said that he'll fix the opposition. So he has started to fix me."
- On his disappointment in not being included as an Honorary Member of the Society: "I'm sure the entire Singapore knows I'm the only lawyer worth of this description of the noblest expression of the profession. I'm not elating or gloating myself — I'm saying that this is what the public have said. Go to the internet and so on and so forth."
- "Definitely I'm more capable than Lee Kuan Yew and Lee Hsien Loong put together."
- "Not one single lawyer in town in the Law Society has spoke up for the Hindus, whose rights have been trampled with. Law Society didn't speak up for any of the rights of the people which have been trampled with. I'm the only one who've spoken. And yet you want to bar me from practice today.
- "Give this letter to your president - he thinks he's a psychiatrist. Good luck to him."
- Mr. Gopalan, apparently the Head of Conduct wants to head out. Ravi's sister prevents him from doing so. After a few minutes of awkward interaction, Ravi reprimands his sister. She apologizes.
- "I wish all the best to the Law Society of Singapore, which has lost its cause. Hereinafter, it will be known as the Lost Society of Singapore. Lost its agenda, the fight for the rule of law."
- "Article 12 says 'No one shall be discriminated on account of their public service'. The appointment of Lee Hsien Loong is unconstitutional because it breaches Article 12, because he was elected because he was Chinese. Goh Chok Tong was elected because he was Chinese."
