Tragedy struck the affluent suburbs of West Coast Rise when an argument between father and son turned violent, leaving the elderly patriarch dead that very evening.
Neighbours had reported hearing a woman's scream from their semi-detached house in the late afternoon on Tuesday — their Indonesian maid was seeking help after an argument between her employers turned into a physical scuffle, The New Paper reports.
After the police arrived at the scene, 67-year-old Tan Kok Keng was conveyed unconscious to National University Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead later at 6.48pm.
Allegedly, his son — 29-year-old Mark Tan Peng Liat — had strangled his father during the altercation. The young Tan is known to be the founder of model and talent management agency The People Studio, and a recipient of a Singapore's Outstanding Enterprise award.
In court earlier today, he was charged with the murder of his father and is to be remanded at Central police division for a week for investigations. The case is expected to resume on Feb 18.
