Following a piece published last month on The Online Citizen (TOC) which saw local inventor Dr Ting Choon Meng affirming the fact that the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) had copied his patent without permission, the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) had ordered both the online portal and the inventor to stop making "false statements".
TOC and Dr Ting however are not backing down without a fight.
According to TOC, both parties maintain that Mindef cannot utilize the Protection from Harrassment Act against them as ministries can't qualify as victims of harassment.
Dr Ting received a legal notice from the AGC that threatened to use the Act against them unless he signs a written undertaking while TOC was similarly threatened with action unless they removed their original report, or append a preface that redirects to Mindef's clarification statement on the issue.
Both entities have refused to accede to AGC's demands and have sought legal advice on the letters.
