Republic Polytechnic to break Singapore record for most people dining in the darkRepublic Polytechnic's Dining in the Dark returns to their campus once again in another unique event cum fundraising event Tomorrow, more than 200 staff and students from Republic Polytechnic will dine in total darkness to raise funds for the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped (SAVH) while also breaking Singapore's previous record of 107 people in a dark dining experience together.  The concept is said to have started way back in 1999, where the idea that if customers can't see the food they're eating, it'll enhance the other senses and increase gastronomic pleasure. Aside from the unique experience, Republic Polytechnic's Dining in the Dark event aims to raise awareness of the daily challenges faced by the visually handicapped.  Proceeds from their ticket sales will go towards funding the SAVH's Skills Development Programme which will equip the visually impaired with competencies in areas such as telemarketing and computer literacy, enabling them to be self-sufficient.  Photo: Janet McKnight via Flickr
