The latest survey conducted by the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) revealed that gambling participation rates among Singapore residents have fallen since 2011, though the decrease is not significant enough to be cheery about.
In the 2014 survey, 44% of Singapore residents aged 18 and above reported having participated in at least one form of gambling activity in the last 12 months, compared to 47% in the 2011 survey. "The three percentage points was not statistically significant," the NCPG notes.
Patterns in Singapore's favourite gambling activities have not differed much from 2011; 4D and TOTO still remains to be popular at 35 percent and 27 percent respectively. 10 percent of the gambling participation portion goes towards social gambling (Mahjong, etc) while 16 percent goes to the Singapore Sweep.
TODAY reports that more have been seeking help for problem gambling but remain afraid to take the first step.
