![Security levels stepped up due to Paris terrorist attack]()
A shockingly horrendous terrorist attack in Paris yesterday left at least 12 dead in an assault on the offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo by militant extremists.
Three militant Islamist gunmen armed with Kalashnikov rifles, a shotgun and a bazooka stormed into the headquarters of Charlie Hebdo, brutally killing a few of the magazine's key staff, and two police officers, while wounding many others as a violent reprisal against the magazine's controversial depictions of Islamic prophet Muhammad. It is considered blasphemous in the Muslim religion to visually depict Muhammad in any form.
The youngest of the gunmen has already surrendered himself to the authorities, while a massive manhunt is ongoing to search for the remaining two suspects, who remain at large.
In response to the the Paris attacks, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean expressed his deepest condolences to the casualties' loved ones, reminding Singaporeans to "treasure and strengthen the ties that bind our communities together".
