Caught in the throes of some sexy time at a staircase landing of a condominium, a teenage couple agreed to an unscrupulous security guard's extortion: $1000 for his silence.
TODAY reports that 32-year-old Nagindran Dharmiah was working his rounds as a security guard at a condominium located at Simei Street last March when he stumbled upon a teenage couple having sex on the 11th floor staircase landing. The girl was a resident at the condominium.
Taking advantage of their consternation over getting caught, Nagindran told them that the whole thing was caught on tape through the CCTV, and took a photo of the couple on his phone. Threatening to call the police and the couple's parents, he offered to get rid of the evidence for the hefty sum of $1,000.
Investigations later revealed that there was no CCTV camera in the first place.
The girl withdrew the money and gave it to Nagindran, after which he deleted the photo on his mobile phone and took down her contact details.
The troubles for the couple were not over as Nagindran got greedy and demanded an additional $850 due to complications in getting rid of the evidence, urging her to pass him the money at Tai Seng MRT station.
The girl made a police report and set an appointment with the security guard at the MRT station, handing over $50 to him in an envelope. Police officers on hand apprehended him immediately.
Nagindran has since been charged with three counts of aggravated cheating, though District Judge Lim Tze Haw took into consideration that it was his first offence and the amount of money was relatively small. He sentenced the man to two-months in jail for each charge and ordered the money to be returned to the girl.
