Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) has placed 'Edz Ello' on administrative duties, pending police investigations on inflammatory posts allegedly made by him on social media.
Anti-Singaporean comments made using his Facebook account went viral over the weekend, prompting netizens to complain to the hospital, where he's employed as a staff nurse. TTSH then released a statement saying it was investigating his claim that his Facebook account had been hacked and that the comments weren't his, but netizens were not having it. Many went on to trawl his social media history, resulting in the discovery of more racist comments made in as way back as early 2013.
In a statement yesterday, TTSH said it considered the issue a "serious matter". "We are a public healthcare institution and we expect our staff to be respectful and professional. We do not condone behaviours or comments that are irresponsible and offensive, and will take the appropriate disciplinary action where necessary," said the hospital via its Facebook page.
