Many of you would've noticed the less than abundant supply of produce such as fish and vegetables at your local grocery.
Various media reports have attributed this to the prolonged rainy season in Malaysia, whose annual flood situation was only recently placed under control.
Local vendors believe that the neighbouring government, faced with drops of up to 40 percent in fish and vegetable supply, is worried it might not be able to meet domestic demand and is cutting down on exports.
According to TODAY, vegetable sellers, who may be hit stronger because their produce tend to rot faster during periods of heavy rainfall, have been getting their stock from China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
But consumers have been known to still prefer Malaysian produce, which travels a much shorter distance to get to Singapore shelves and is more frequently consumed by customers here.
