A road block along Clementi Road in the wee hours of Nov. 17 led to the arrest of seven suspects related to loanshark harassment in various parts of Singapore.
At about 2:40am, officers from the Clementi Neighbourhood Police Centre stopped three men aged 16 and 18, who were travelling in a taxi. The authorities found loanshark paraphernalia on them, and later discovered that they had been involved in spraying paint and scrawling loanshark-related graffiti on the walls of HDB blocks in the estate.
Subsequent follow-up investigations led to the arrest of two more 17-year-olds at Boon Lay Drive, linked to similar cases in Bedok, Tampines, Toa Payoh and Jurong West.
Two more men aged 16 and 45 were arrested for getting involved in recruitment for loanshark syndicates.
All seven suspects were charged in court today.
