For many of us, visiting a new country means picking up its etiquette and eating its food. For the rest, it's checking what they've got in their local McDonald's.
Singapore-based expat James MacGowan likes the fast food chain so much that he makes the effort to try a new menu item even when he's not in the country offering it.
According to InSing, the 26-year-old has taste-tested McDonald's food from over 50 countries, and when he can't physically order the food himself, he gets someone to buy it, freeze it and keep it for him until they come to Singapore or he flies to wherever they are.
That's apparently what he did when the McMooncake recently became available again in Thailand as it does every year during the Mid-Autumn Festival. He had a friend freeze the box of individually sealed mooncakes in flavours like lotus seed paste with salted egg yolk and durian, which he later personally collected.
MacGowan has been blogging about eating McDonald's food from around the word since 2011 and counts the Japanese menu as his favourite.
He tells InSing he may stop if he puts on weight, but it's unlikely this will happen because 1) he actually avoids fast food in general 2) he orders the review items a la carte and shares them with his wife 3) he has a pedometer that helps him watch his health.
